Elder Rights Australia (ERA) is a national advocacy organisation supporting older Australians through programs such as NACAP and ACVVS. With a geographically dispersed workforce and a growing need for streamlined communication, ERA sought to modernise its internal communications and allow staff to access key information and tools from any device.
CloudJoy was engaged to deliver a SharePoint Online intranet that would unify ERA’s digital workspace, improve access to tools and resources and enhance staff engagement across the organisation.
Challenge
ERA faced several operational challenges:
- Fragmented access to organisational resources and tools
- Limited visibility of internal news, events and updates
- A need for mobile-friendly, responsive design to support remote and frontline workers
- Lack of structured content governance and permissions across departments
The goal was to build a modern intranet that would serve as a central hub for communication, collaboration and resource access without burdening internal teams or disrupting day-to-day operations.
Course of Action
CloudJoy led the end-to-end delivery of the intranet project, operating as an embedded partner within ERA’s team:
- Conducted discovery and validation workshops to align stakeholders and define requirements
- Delivered a phased rollout over eight weeks, covering design, build, training and launch.
- Implemented custom content and news templates, a structured mega menu, document libraries with metadata, content pages that surface content from libraries and seamless integration with Microsoft Teams.
- Delivered training sessions and comprehensive guides for content owners and admins to ensure long-term sustainability

- Consistent branding: The ERA intranet maintains a consistent visual identity aligned with ERA brand guidelines, ensuring a unified and professional user experience across all pages and components.
- News & Events: The latest organisational and positive news stories are featured on the intranet homepage, sourced directly from the news hub. Events are categorised so that organisational events appear on the homepage, while other events are surfaced on relevant content pages.
- Apps & Tools Integration: Direct links to Employment Hero, Salesforce, OPAN Advocacy Academy and other apps and tools used across the organisation.
- Resources Library: A central resources library that hosts a variety of materials including NACAP and ACVVS resources, policies, manuals and forms. These resources are surfaced across various intranet pages to help staff easily access relevant content while content owners maintain content from one location.
- Health and Wellbeing: Dedicated area within the ERA intranet designed to support a diverse workforce by centralising resources and initiatives that promote employee wellness.
- Facebook feed: ERA’s Facebook feed is embedded on the intranet homepage to enhance visibility and engagement
- Microsoft Teams integration: Intranet is pinned to the Microsoft Teams app bar giving staff instant access without leaving Teams.
- Permissions Model: Role-based access across all intranet sites.
